The world’s first Android tablet that can be worn on the head, presented the US company RealWear during the kick-off event in Silicon Valley on January 31 before. Via BARCOTEC, the European distributor and channel partner of RealWear, the product will be available as a “Prototype Kit” from April and as a production device from mid-2017.
Really handsfree
It’s the many mobile workers out there who do critical work on a daily basis and have tons of paperwork to work professionally. Plans, installation instructions or forms, the notebook or the tablet in the hand complicate the work, because the use, in particular the input of the data (and the distraction involved), is tedious, difficult and time consuming. And dangerous.
This is exactly where the “Head-Mounted Tablet” comes in:
The intuitive and completely hands-free device activates Android apps via voice control. Via video remote support can receive mobile workers support from the Helpdesk, see technical documentation, download IoT data call maintenance instructions and sketches to record inspection work – and therefore do with the HMT-1 their tasks faster, safer and smarter, even in rough , noisy and often dangerous environment. An explosion-proof version will be introduced in 2018 for applications such as oil / gas, chemical industry and mining environment.
The data is displayed via a display integrated in the headset, the voice instruction works precisely, the integrated scanner in the camera helps to collect the data. The HMT-1 is completely power-autonomous and the integrated battery can easily last a full working shift with full Wi-Fi operation.
Worldwide Echo
Over 50 leading companies have already joined the Pioneer Program, which provides early access to the HMT-1. Companies from the oil / gas, aviation / national defense / security, retail / logistics / transport, power supply / maintenance and health care sectors are already testing the first devices. Primary application fields are:
- View worksheets and plans (“Document Navigator”)
- Remote support of the employees at the place of action (“Remote Mentor”)
- IoT Data Visualization (“Industry 4.0 Analytics Data”)
- Fill forms via voice (“Mobile Forms”)
- Safely execute work instructions (“Work Instructions”)
Alexander Rainsberger, Managing Director of European distributor BARCOTEC, commented: “The HMT-1 is impressive. A product that will fundamentally change the way we work in the future. We at BARCOTEC have seen many products come in 28 years, but this device is groundbreaking. We are excited!”
“The HMT-1 is a game changer as it improves the security of ongoing operations, the productivity of industrial systems, and the continued evolution of mobile workers,” said Andy Lowery, CEO of RealWear. “We look forward to working with BARCOTEC and defining a new dimension of mobile working.”
